Scenic Eclipse. What an experience!
In so many ways this trip gave me the wow factor! As a Cornish girl, sailing out of Fowey was always going to be special for me but driving up to the harbour where I spent so much of my childhood and seeing such a sleek and stylish ship docked was really something quite unique.
I just returned from three days on board the ultimate expedition cruise ship: Scenic Eclipse. My colleague Emma and I joined the Western Europe Discovery voyage which was sailing from Lisbon to Bergen – however we just sampled a snippet of the journey and embarked in Fowey, Cornwall, and disembarked in Amsterdam three days later.

Celebrity Cruises made the whole process seamless. When we arrived at our hotel in Quito it was explained to us that we should take it easy with it being our first night in the second highest city in the world. We were greeted by hotel staff who gave us some special tea for acclimatization to the high altitude.
Antarctica, the 7th and least-visited continent, is on many intrepid travellers' bucket list, ours included. Whenever we discussed it though the one thing that put us off was crossing the Drake Passage, so a voyage incorporating flying to Antarctica one way and sailing back seemed the perfect solution, giving us the opportunity to experience the Drake Passage without it affecting our outward journey.
