I just returned from three days on board the ultimate expedition cruise ship: Scenic Eclipse. My colleague Emma and I joined the Western Europe Discovery voyage which was sailing from Lisbon to Bergen – however we just sampled a snippet of the journey and embarked in Fowey, Cornwall, and disembarked in Amsterdam three days later.
There’s no denying that getting to Tahiti from the UK is one of the longest journeys you could ever take, but is it worth it? Tahiti had been a bucket list destination for us for a long time and what better way to do it than on a magnificent tall ship sailing to all of the Society Islands on a week long cruise.

Celebrity Cruises made the whole process seamless. When we arrived at our hotel in Quito it was explained to us that we should take it easy with it being our first night in the second highest city in the world. We were greeted by hotel staff who gave us some special tea for acclimatization to the high altitude.
