Is Explora Journeys sustainable?

Brand-new ultra-luxury cruise line Explora Journeys is set to debut this summer and we couldn’t be more excited. The launch of the first ship, EXPLORA I, brings with it a new approach to luxury cruising, breaking away from the mould and finding new ways for travellers to connect with the ocean.

Explora Journeys’ tagline is ‘Discover the Ocean State of Mind’ and one way in which they are living and breathing this motto is through the innovative environmental and technological advancements aboard EXPLORA I. Keep reading to find out more.

An environmental promise

Partnering with Fincantieri, Explora Journeys has committed to building a forward-thinking fleet of ‘ships for tomorrow’, utilising the latest environmentally supportive technologies and alternative energy solutions for each vessel in the fleet.

The progressive design includes hybrid power systems, reduced emissions (by up to 90%), high-efficiency appliances, advanced waste management solutions, and optimised hydrodynamics. EXPLORA I will also receive RINA DOLPHIN certification for reduced underwater disturbance.

Single-use plastics will not be used onboard the Explora fleet, nor will they be offered during land-based experiences and excursions. This positive dedication and inherent respect for the oceans and marine life places sustainability right at the heart of Explora Journeys.

On their mission to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations and take guests to remote regions for the perfect balance of luxury versus adventure, Explora Journeys will place emphasis on destination learning and immersive experiences. This will mean enhancing each and every itinerary by educating and getting guests involved with the local culture, traditions, gastronomy, craftsmanship, and more.

So not only will EXPLORA I be forging the path towards sustainable luxury cruising; she will also be promoting ecotourism, local immersion, and supporting local environmental and social causes throughout her voyages.

Finally, as part of the wider MSC Group, Explora Journeys will be supporting and giving back to environmental causes through the MSC Foundation. This foundation is deeply committed to leaving a better world for future generations and focuses not only on the ocean but on land. From sponsoring coral conservation to providing emergency relief in the case of natural disasters, the MSC Foundation is motivated by a sense of responsibility towards our planet, its people, and resources.

Why are environmental advancements so important in the cruise world?

You may be thinking that’s great, but why should it impact my holiday?

Well, these kinds of improvements to future cruise ships are crucial for future generations. If we want to keep enjoying luxury cruises for the foreseeable future, we need to make sure we are respecting the oceans and not endangering any of the beautiful marine life below.

It’s our responsibility to care for our planet and do our best to ensure that hundreds of years down the line, our descendants can continue enjoying the beautiful places and environments that we get to enjoy today.

Plus, many of these new developments and innovations actually make your cruising experience even better! New hybrid propulsion systems, for example, can make for smoother voyages. More immersion with the local cultures and gastronomy can enhance the dining experiences that you have onboard. And no single-use plastics means you’re more likely to enjoy pristine beaches and oceans, rather than seeing places littered with plastic and damaged by pollution.

So, for those who thought Explora Journeys would be ‘just another luxury cruise line’ – think again. Holding the seas and oceans in the absolute highest regard, Explora Journeys is set to pave the way for the next generation of luxury cruising.
