Fancy a trip to Oslo?
I recently travelled to Oslo, Norway, to explore the beautiful and diverse city. I stayed in a small chain hotel not realizing how perfectly located it was. The staff were excellent and offered so much assistance whether it was for directions or even a place to eat. The room had everything I needed. The location was perfect as the furthest we ever had to walk was around a mile to the Royal Palace.
Oslo Domkirke
Tucked away in the heart of Oslo, the Oslo Domkirke (Oslo Cathedral) is a stunning and historic church that serves as both a spiritual center and a landmark of the city.
As Oslo’s main church, It holds regular worship services including Sunday Masses and special services during important religious holidays like Christmas and Easter. It also hosts concerts, recitals, and more which I hope to catch when I return to the city.
AkerShus Festning
Nestled along the picturesque Oslofjord, Akershus Festning (Akershus Fortress) overlooks Oslo’s harbor. If you're a history enthusiast, a lover of architecture, or simply looking for a scenic spot to explore in Oslo, Akershus Festning is a must-see destination.
Norway’s military past has allowed the city to turn into a cultural hub that welcomes tourists all year round. Today, visitors can explore the grounds and immerse themselves in the rich history of Oslo and Norway. Several parts of the fortress are open to the public, offering a variety of experiences for those interested in history, architecture, and military culture.
One of my favourite parts of my trip was The Norwegian Armed forces Museum which is also located with the walls of the Akershus Festning. I was a bit tentative about making this trip however I found myself walking round the museum for hours on end interested in the evolution of weaponry and artillery. This is a must visit whilst passing through the Akershush.
Opera house & Art museum
The Oslo Opera House really stood out to me during my trip as the beautiful and unique architecture is unlike any other.
Whether you're a fan of opera, architecture, or simply looking for a place to enjoy spectacular views of the city, the Oslo Opera House offers an amazing experience that I definitely recommend.
The Royal Palace
Nestled at the end of Oslo's grand Karl Johans gate, the Royal Palace (Kongehuset) stands as one of the most iconic landmarks in Norway's capital. This magnificent structure is currently the home of the Norwegian monarch, King Harald V and his family. With its stunning architecture, rich history, and beautiful gardens, the Royal Palace is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Oslo. The guards change positions everyday at 01:30pm which is worth a visit to see whilst visiting the beautiful city.
Overall I had the best time in Oslo, the city has a lot to offer ranging from history, architecture, cuisine and so much more and I definitely recommend visiting!
