Discover what Belgium has to offer!
Explore the city’s architecture:
We started our first day with a stroll around the city to take in all the sites, we admired the infrastructure in the Grand-Place square, visited the famous Manneken Pis and then headed over to Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert to browse the shops. We used the public transport to take a visit to the Atonium which offered views of the whole city and an amazing internal light show display and exhibits on the creation of the Atonium structure and the scientific backstory behind it.

Day trip to Ghent:
On one of the days we took a bus tour to Ghent and enjoyed a guided walk around the city with a knowledgeable local who showed us all of their historical buildings and the stories behind them. We took a walk down beside the Lieve canal as we were briefed on its crucial importance in the city’s trade and travel throughout centuries. We then explored the castle and took in the sights of the all the different churches and the history of their creation as we navigated the cobbled roads.

Day trip to Bruges:
On our day trip to Bruges we wandered around the city perusing in all the local shops and taking in all the beautiful buildings. We had the option of viewing the city via horse and cart but opted for the boat tour which navigated us through the city via the canals that wound their way through all the roads and buildings, this was the perfect way to sit back and take in all the city had to offer.

Indulge in their namesake foods:
We spent hours wandering around all of the local chocolate shops trying samples and admiring the mirage of flavours and shapes. We definitely over-indulged on chocolate, treating ourselves to rich hot chocolate and authentic Belgian waffles. We also tried their famous frites with shops dotted all over the city, these did not disappoint at all especially with the choices of sauces available.

Christmas markets:
The main reason for our trip was to visit the famous Christmas markets which were dotted all over the city, each with their own charm. We browsed the stalls, treating ourselves to some classic market food and took in all the Christmas decorations that lit up the city. We couldn’t resist taking a ride on the Ferris wheel which gave us optimal views of the whole city which looked amazing all lit up for Christmas.
