An Amazing Voyage Aboard Seven Seas Grandeur

I have just returned from a five-night cruise on board Regent Seven Seas Grandeur and one word to describe the whole experience – Amazing!

We embarked the ship in Stockholm and disembarked in Copenhagen, and both were very well organised processes. The ship was docked overnight in Stockholm before sailing to Warnemünde, where we also stayed overnight, giving us the chance to see both destinations. In Stockholm, we experienced the Ice Bar and had a guided city tour. In Warnemünde, we decided to explore the town on our own, as everything was within walking distance of the ship.

Once on board, we were shown to our suite, which was located on deck six. The suite was elegantly furnished and had a large veranda, which was very comfortable, with two reclining chairs and a table, perfect for in-suite drinks. It wasn’t long before our suite steward knocked on the door to introduce himself and provide a full explanation of all the in-suite facilities, including how to order in-suite beverages and how to arrange for our laundry to be cleaned. Both are included within the fare.

After sampling the comfort of the bed, which was so comfortable with beautiful linens, we headed up to Deck 11, the Pool Deck, for some lunch. I was surprised at how quiet the area was, with no need to queue for anything or wait long to order our drinks. This is something I have experienced when sailing on larger ships. The staff-to-guest ratio on Regent is excellent.

After lunch, we explored the ship. Everything has been designed perfectly; it’s light and airy and has comfortable seating. We located the speciality dining restaurants, which are the French restaurant Chartreuse, the Asian restaurant Pacific Rim and the steak restaurant Prime 7, as we had pre-booked to dine in each one.

All were excellent, but my favourite has to be Prime 7. The French onion soup is the best I’ve ever tasted, and believe me when I say, I’ve tried quite a few on different cruise lines. Service was excellent and consistent across all dining venues. The friendly staff make the cruise; they are wonderful.

The entertainment was excellent, and what I loved about being on a smaller ship was seeing the same people each evening and meeting new friends. The shore excursions are very well organised, with luxury coaches and professional guides.

I now appreciate how Regent falls into the luxury cruise line category. Apart from spa treatments, everything is included, and there’s no need to get your cruise card out every time you get a drink.

There was always a seat available in the theatre, bars, restaurants and on the sun deck, and the ship is quiet and relaxing. It really has opened my eyes to how much you get included compared to mainstream cruises, where it’s extra for drinks, gratuities, excursions, speciality dining and Wi-Fi, whilst lacking the level of service you receive whilst on an ultra-luxury cruise.
