Why visit Greenland?

Dec 9, 2024luxury, greenland

Greenland is located south of the North pole and is the largest island in the world. It is a within the kingdom of Denmark and is extremely well known for its vast icebergs and glaciers, which make up for 80% of the islands surface area and are responsible for Greenlands aesthetic landscape

It is also very popular for its period of ‘midnight sun’, which is when Greenland experiences times with sunlight for 24 hours in a day. This happens between May 25th and July 25th, which would make a perfect time to experience a cruise to Greenland, because I believe everyone should get the opportunity to see this at least once in their lifetime. This is also when they experience the longest day in the year, June 21st, which is a national holiday for the island, so this will allow passengers to learn more about the culture of Greenland.

Nuuk

When travelling on a cruise to Greenland, you can expect to be making a stop at the capital city of Greenland, Nuuk. This city is the most popular city in Greenland, with a population of 20,000. Nuuk is popular for a reason with its vibrant houses and modern city center. I can guarantee that you won’t want to leave!

Nuuk is located on the shoreline of Greenland, which means there are plenty of activities to do on your visit, if you are looking for something to test yourself against the extreme climate. They offer boat tours, which will allow you to explore the Fjords of Nuuk, this will allow you to have the best views possible and ensure you explore every part of Nuuk.

If you are looking for something a bit more challenging, then you might opt to take part in water sports such as kayaking and paddle boarding.

Ilulissat

You are also likely to make a stop at the town of Ilulissat, which is located in western Greenland. This town will offer you the chance to see some of the best views of Greenland and you don’t want to miss it!

You will also be in with a chance of getting to see the Northern Lights, which many people dream of, and by visiting Greenland you can make this a reality.

There is also a wide range of activities for you to take part in whilst on your visit; boat trips, dog sledding on the ice sheets, guided tours in the remote settlements and you will also get to see one of the biggest glaciers in the world, the Ilulissat ice fjord. I can assure you that with all of the activities available you will always have something to keep you occupied.

Sisimiut

Sisimiut, the second largest city located in Greenland, is also a must see when going on a cruise to Greenland. It is home to a population of 6,000 people, with a diverse culture of people, with most of them being Inuit or Danish, which will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about their way of life.

This is another town which is known for its aesthetic landscape full of mountains, glaciers and fjords.  whilst visiting one of your many cruise stops, you will get the opportunity to hike up these amazing places and get the best view of them possible.

One of the most popular attractions in the area is the historic ruins of an old settlement, this will allow you to imagine what life used to be like in Greenland and how towns looked before they were developed.

There are also many other activities available on your visit including fishing, kayaking and skiing, which will give you the chance to try new things that you might not have imagined yourself getting the chance to do.

On board the cruise

After a full day of exploring the fjords of Greenland, you will be able to get back onboard your cruise ship and relax in the comforts and warmth of your cabin. You will be able to embrace the luxury amenities that are included in your cruise, whether that is going and indulging in one of the many restaurants you will be able to find onboard or just kicking your feet back in your cabin.

You will be able to look back on the adventures you experienced throughout the day and imagine yourself getting to passing the stories of the amazing memories onto your friends and families, encouraging them to also embark on this wonderful experience.
