AmaWaterways launches river cruising routes in Colombia
The Seatrade Cruise Global Conference in Fort Lauderdale brought some exciting announcements, particularly from AmaWaterways.
Janet Bava, Chief Marketing Officer, announced they would start river cruising in vibrant Colombia from 2024.
AmaMagdalena and AmaMelodia will sail for seven days from Cartagena, heading inland towards Colombia’s verdant heart, before docking in Barranquilla on the scorching Caribbean coast. Against a backdrop of incredible scenery, guests will be able to enjoy local cuisine and spot endemic wildlife from the signature comfort of an AmaWaterways ship.
“Included are shore excursions, WiFi and all the amenities guests are used to having in the luxury cruise space”, assured Ms. Bava.
No other cruise line offers guests the chance to set sail up Colombia’s Magdalena River. Ms. Bava noted that two ships will sail the route “because of so much demand”, adding that “it will be phenomenal”. Cartagena has always been a popular ocean cruise destination, but this is the first time a river cruise line will operate there.
Getting to the embarkation point is easy enough. The port city is only an hour from Bogota and features its own airport, Rafael Nunez International.
