Why Kos Should Be On Your Must-Visit List
Interested in sailing around the Greek Isles? Well, make sure Kos is on your list of must-visit islands.
Although you can visit Kos on your bog standard JET2 package holiday, the best way to take in Greece is definitely by cruise. Getting to visit so many different islands all on one trip is definitely a plus, and cruise lines such as Seabourn, Oceania and Azamara all have stops which feature Kos.
Despite being one of the larger islands, it is often less visited, in favour of more popular destinations such as Santorini; however, don’t let this fool you into thinking there is nothing to do.
If sun, sea and sand are your vibe, Kos’ many beaches would be right up your street; however, should you wish to delve more into the history of Greece, you can visit one of the many ancient ruins or castles that populate the island.

Kos is, in fact, home to the UNESCO-recognised Asclepieion. It was a place dedicated to the study of medicine and is where Hippocrates (known as the father of medicine) founded his school. It’s €15 pp to enter; however, it is free for EU citizens up to 25 and up to 18 for non-EU citizens.
Should none of the above tickle your fancy, Kos is also a great island to take a day trip from. One of the most popular trips is to Bodrum, Turkey, with ferries running daily from Kos Town.
One of my personal highlights of Kos is just how friendly the locals are. It may sound boring and cliché, but having a friendly face and a warm greeting, no matter where you go, does bring a smile to your face.

Like all the Greek islands, the views in Kos are nothing to scoff at. I personally loved the charm of modern and ancient Greece blending so seamlessly, no matter where you visited.
Kos is a diverse island, and certain areas, such as Kardmena, are known more for the nightlife, whilst Lambi is quieter but not far enough from the centre to feel detached.
If you really want to experience Kos but have limited hours, then Kos town is the place to be. It has everything from historical ruins to markets and boutiques you can spend the afternoon perusing. Just a stone's throw from the port, you can walk in less than 10-minutes, althoug taxi’s are available should you prefer.

All in all, I would recommend Kos to anyone. It’s family-friendly but also great for couples looking to get away or a solo passenger looking for their next adventure.
