The beautiful Cartagena

I have recently had the pleasure of staying at one of my favourite cities on Spain’s mainland, Cartagena.

Cartagena is an historic city and is full of culture located by the Mediterranean Sea. The city offers a vibrant nightlife alongside stunning architecture and a very popular cruise port meaning there really is something for everyone in this diverse location.

An estimated 150 ships visit Port Pier Alfonso XII Cruise Terminal per year, and this is great for tourism in Cartagena and Murcia.

The beautiful harbour is full of impressive architecture including the Whale tale sculpture that sits by the El Zulo and the sculpture looks as though the whale has dived into the water. You are all so lucky to see the Naval base and are opposite the Naval Museum. The museum is on the west side of the port and was built in the 18th century. The building was originally built to house enslaved people and convicts and then after the Spanish Civil war in 1939 it became a training barracks.

We were lucky enough to visit The Roman Museum and Theatre; The Roman Amphitheatre was later used by the Spanish as a bullring for bull fighting which is now an illegal sport in Spain. We paid 6 euros each for this visit and it's better to pay in advance to ensure your spot on the day. We took the panoramic lift up to Parque Torres where you get the perfect birds eye view of the Roman Theatre and the Pier Alfonso XII.

Before leaving Cartagena, we walked up to one of my favourite squares Plaza De San Francisco for our favourite tapas. The Plaza is surrounded by Shops and Restaurants creating a perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy the surroundings whilst soaking up the sun.

MY top 5 things to do in Cartagena have to be the Roman Theatre Museum, Panoramic lift, Naval Museum, Plaza De San Francisco and The National Museum of Underwater Archaeology which is situated right by the Cruise Port.

I definitely recommend this diverse location to everyone including families or even for a romantic couples retreat.
