Oceania Cruises Announce New 'Adults Only' Policy

A new chapter begins for leading small ship cruise line, Oceania Cruises, as they last month unveiled an ‘Adults Only’ policy—the latest step in their journey towards becoming one of the most refined lines at sea.

Starting from January 7, 2026, only those aged 18 and above will be permitted to sail with Oceania Cruises. Any reservations made for under 18s prior to this date will of course be honoured, as part of a seamless transition into this new era.

Oceania Cruises have long been outspoken about their commitment to fostering a quietly elegant ambience aboard all eight of their ships, with a focus on delivering world-class service, providing a genuine escape from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life and upholding their ‘Your World, Your Way’ philosophy. This latest shift in policy reflects that.

“Our guests have consistently shared that the tranquil environment aboard our ships is one of the primary reasons they return time and time again,” stated Jason Montague Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “By transitioning to an adults-only experience, we are enhancing the very essence of the Oceania Cruises journey – one defined by sophistication, serenity and discovery.”

Far from coming out of the blue, this policy has been quietly simmering for some time as Oceania Cruises have been meticulously gathering feedback from travel partners, loyal customers and new-to-brand guests in an attempt to answer the question: Who is the Oceania Cruises product actually for?

“Quite honestly, the Oceania experience is not a multigenerational, lots-of-children-running-around experience,” said Nathan Hickman, Chief Commercial Officer for Oceania Cruises. He went on to explain that the line’s typical customer tended to be aged 55 or older and that the line didn’t offer any onboard activities for children. In fact, he continued, many of their customers were surprised to learn that the line was not already adults-only, creating ‘almost a disconnect’ on the rare occasion that children were on board.

The overall consensus was that travellers gravitate towards Oceania for their uniquely serene atmosphere above all else. Opportunities to enjoy immersive journeys at a relaxed pace, to connect with each destination on a deeper level and forge relationships with like-minded cruisers is the draw which keeps guests returning to Oceania Cruises time after time. In becoming adults-only, Oceania are not limiting their product, rather playing to their strengths, elevating a much-beloved product to luxurious new heights.
