What is the most luxurious cruise ship?

You might know that Panache Cruises is a specialist in luxury and ultra-luxury cruises. In fact, we’re one of the top-rated luxury and ultra-luxury cruise agencies in the world, and we like to think we know a thing or two about cruises and we reckon we’re somewhat a voice of authority on luxury cruise ships. So, we’re here to settle a score.

You asked and we’re about to answer—what is the world’s most refined cruise ship sailing today?

Here are our top five picks for the best luxury cruise ship out there today.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seven Seas Grandeur

2023, 744 guests, 548 crew, 372 rooms, 10 decks, 224 metres long, 31 metres wide and 55,500 tonnes

Seven Seas Grandeur is just another work of art by the famous Fincantieri shipyard. The public spaces are all stunning, and the whole feel of the ship is light and airy; intimate but with enough space to breathe and relax. It maintains that ultra-luxurious Regent sense of traditionality, but is contemporary and sharp in all the right places. The lobby area is most remarkable, where reception is located with the almost-ornamental glass lifts. A favourite has to be the Grandeur Lounge—an area in the day or evening where Regent Seven Seas Cruises programme performances. It’s a place to gather here for a nice drink and some nibbles in the evening. It has such a nice atmosphere to it—a great place to unwind after a day of… unwinding on another seamless journey provided by Regent.

Explora Journeys, Explora I

2023, 922 passengers, 700 crew, 461 rooms, 248 metres long, 33 metres wide and 64,000 tonnes

explora-I-ship

EXPLORA I is beautiful in a classical yacht-style design with a dark navy hull and gold lettering, but a blueprint for modern design. The comforting thing is that there are five more prospective almost-identical ships in the fleet, each as luxurious as the last. You’ll find 14 decks with ample indoor public space for refined seclusion and privacy. Each ship also boasts more than 26,909 sq ft of stunning ocean views all around with 64 private cabanas dotted around three outdoor pools. A fourth pool, with a retractable glass roof, allows swimming and poolside relaxation in any weather. Combined with various indoor and outdoor whirlpool baths on the ship’s promenade deck, the ship has been designed with water as a real focal point of the onboard experience—helping guests find their Ocean State of Mind.

Silversea, Silver Ray

2024, 728 passengers, 363 crew, 244 metres long, 30 metres wide, and 54,700 tonnes

silver-ray-ship-at-sea

Silver Ray (an incredible name for a ship) is here, and she’s beautiful! Silversea have managed to achieve a significantly greater connection with the sea and destinations. There are blurred lines between the inside and outside on this stunningly well-presented ship—there are windows in the theatre, beds out to the sea, the lifts are on the outside of the ship, there are floor to ceiling windows in what feels like every public area and there is just so much space. Traditional Silversea customers will need to prepare themselves for this evolution, whilst those who are used to luxury or ultra-luxury cruising elsewhere should consider Nova or Ray as a future cruise holiday. Nova Class isn’t just luxurious, it’s a marvel in engineering with an asymmetrical design, meaning more space can be found on board. It’s a nightmare for the engineers, but wonderful for ultra-luxury ocean cruisers—especially with butler service provided in every suite.

Riverside Cruises, Riverside Mozart

2023, 154 passengers, 92 crew, 4 decks, 120 metres long, 25 metres wide, and 4,000 tonnes

riverside-mozart-ship

A holiday on the double-width Riverside Mozart means packing your suitcase just once, experiencing all kinds of things and being happy: in one of the world-class restaurants, at the spa with a sauna and massage, on an excursion or simply sipping an Earl Grey or a Taittinger Rosé on the Vista Deck as the beautiful Wachau landscape passes by. It's all about letting go. It's not just the clocks that tick differently on the Riverside Mozart, but the ship itself. It sets new standards with suites instead of cabins, the smallest of which measures 20 square metres. No other luxury river cruise ship on the Danube offers so much space and such a large crew. Service on board is excellent. And yes, different tastes can break up marriages—but this ship is uncompromisingly beautiful.
