A cruise connoisseur's guide to Barcelona

In June, I returned to one of my most beloved cities, Barcelona! Me and my girlfriend stayed there for five nights and had the best time. This was our first holiday together and what a destination to visit! Barcelona offers everything a discerning traveler could wish for and more; from sandy, stretched beaches with magnificent super yachts dotted around the marina, to narrow cobbled streets steeped in history. This five-night break gave us the perfect opportunity to explore the culture, history and architecture which make this mediterranean city so truly special. Here are my top four places to visit whilst in Barcelona.

The Gothic Quarter

The Gothic quarter is the oldest district in Barcelona. This area is often referred to as the heart of the city, as it used to be the Roman Village and still contains ruins and remnants from its glorious past. The Labrinth of alleyways throughout this enchanting neighborhood offered spectacular attractions to visit such as, Barcelona Cathedral and El Pont De Brisbe (A Neo-Gothic Bridge over a cobbled street, made of Marble). The Gothic Quarter now offers the perfect blend of history and modern Vibrancy, where after exploring, we sat outside a chic bar and enjoyed a beverage whilst watching some great street performers.

Park Guell

This stunning attraction is in the district of Gracia and is worth the walk or bus up there. Wow! This beautiful park showcases the creative genius of the world-famous architect & designer, Antoni Gaudi. We walked through the nature-inspired architecture which seemed to spring itself up from the ground. As well as this, some of the views from Park Guell are truly stunning, you can see many other famous buildings such as the Sagrada Familia & Camp Nou. With narrow winding walkways throughout, it gives the perfect opportunity to explore the park at your own leisure and really take in the landscape.

La Rambla

La Rambla in my opinion, is the heart of Barcelona. The lively boulevard that stretches from Plaça de Catalunya to the waterfront offers so many wonderful and vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours. This then gives visitors a taste of the city's unique and traditional culture. Lined with historic buildings, cafés, and shops, La Rambla is a hub for both locals and tourists. Street performers, flower stalls and bustling markets add to its energetic atmosphere.

Barceloneta Beach

Who doesn’t love a day dedicated to relaxing on the beach, taking in the sun and swimming over the gentle waves of the sea. Behind the beach is lined with lively bars, seafood restaurants and street performers, making it the perfect destination to soak up the sun whilst enjoying a glass of Sangria. Barceloneta Beach truly captures Barcelona's laid-back yet dynamic spirit.

To conclude, Barcelona was amazing! I enjoyed the lively friendly atmosphere, the traditional cuisine, the beautiful architecture and the rich culture embedded within the city.
